CO2 Measured Values, Curves and Trends

Capnography

Capnography describes the measurement of the end-tidal CO2 concentration (etCO2) in exhaled gas. This measurement is performed using infrared spectroscopy and the sidestream method. WEINMANN ventilators don’t just provide a numerical representation of the CO2 level, they can also display curves and trends. The CO2 concentration in the exhaled air is the most important parameter when monitoring ventilation treatment. This value means you can exclude tube misplacement with more certainty and enables better monitoring of the depth of anesthesia and the recovery phase. Capnography can also be used for monitoring purposes in MEDUMAT Standard² without continuous ventilation. The capnography option is available for MEDUMAT Standard² and MEDUMAT Transport ventilators.

Functionality

During the CO2 measurement, sample gas is passed through an optical measurement section. It is then filtered for different wavelengths. The results are converted using microprocessors and presented numerically and graphically on the display.
WEINMANN Emergency uses the sidestream method, which extracts a gas sample via the ventilation hose and evaluates it. Compared to the mainstream method, this has the advantage of no additional dead space being created by a measuring cuvette on the patient. You can therefore read the CO2 measured values directly on the display, which provides a reliable indication of the CO2 content during ventilation.

For MEDUMAT Transport

Would you like to integrate capnography on your MEDUMAT Transport? It couldn’t be simpler! MEDUMAT Transport comes in two versions: with and without capnography. If your MEDUMAT Transport features capnography and the CO2 level is shown on the display, you also need the appropriate breathing circuit.

MEDUMAT Transport with integrated capnography has the following display options:

  • Pressure curve, flow curve

  • Pressure curve, CO2 curve

  • Pressure curve, flow curve, CO2 curve

  • Pressure curve, flow curve, measured values

  • Pressure curve, CO2 curve, measured values

  • Pressure gauge (only in volume control modes)

MEDUMAT Standard² also features capnography using the sidestream method. Choose between a MEDUMAT Standard² with or without capnography. Like the MEDUMAT Transport, you also need the appropriate breathing circuit, which enables the CO2 measurement to be performed during ventilation.

If capnography is integrated in the MEDUMAT Standard², the end-tidal CO2 level will be displayed as a measured value, a curve, and a trend over a longer period. This means you can monitor ventilation treatment more effectively and receive additional support for CPR and RSI. You can also use the capnography function without continuous ventilation to check the carbon dioxide content in respiratory gas.
